Stages of editing the Film Magazine

The first stage of creating the film magazine was to pick a picture that would look best on the front cover of a magazine and provided sufficient space to add text and features to the magazine. We cut out the picture of the ghost using the magnetic lasso tool and editing the colour to black and white to enhance the deadly look and maintain the horror theme. We also using lighting adjustments edited the background of the lake to make it look darker and a keep in theme with the atmosphere of the film.
For the second stage of the magazine we added in the masthead by creating a grey box and layering the word 'FLICK' over the top. To give it a more professional look and follow conventions of typical magazine covers, we copy and pasted the cut out the ghost again and layered it over the text, making the magazine look as if it is an established magazine. We then added the title of the film, using the same font as the one that is used for the captions and title of the trailer, which in affect allows the audience to establish the link between the two thus showing this image and text resembles the trailer. When first placing the text on to the image it looked unclear due to the background obtaining colours such as green, the title didn't stand out and on a magazine cover that's main feature is the film on the front, it is very important that the audience is drawn to the title of the film. Therefore we added a white semi-transparent box in a white colour to contrast with the black title and therefore made it stand out.

For the third stage of editing we added a strap-line along the top of the magazine, again following conventions of successful magazines. We put 'top ten scariest horror inside' to advertise the magazine and maintain a theme for the magazine page, this would also sell the magazine to typical horror film fans as they would be interested to see what critics though the best ones were. We also added a pug to the magazine cover to further sell the magazine by showing yet again the magazine content. For the pug we put 'Free Awakening poster inside' which from our research of the EMPIRE magazine featuring the Spider Man 3 film, we saw how this would attract the audience as if they are fans of horror films and want to see this film in particular the fact they are receiving a free poster will make them feel like they are getting good value for their money. We also added the price and date on the magazine to again make it look professional and realistic.

For the fourth stage of the magazine, we added the cover lines to further advertise the content of the magazine and follow conventions of other existing media magazines. We ensured that we again used black writing against a white background as this keeps in theme with the colour scheme and also through the use of the dull colouring presents the horror theme. We also added some other pictures to the page previewing the posters that are free inside as we felt this made the page look more appealing and eye catching.
